Talk about Citra!

Citra Dreams - Captain Lawrence Brewing, Elmsford NY

Iiiiiiiiiiit’s National Beer Day everyone! I honestly had no idea this was a thing until a few hours ago, but there are so many national fill-in-the-blank" days that I’m not surprised this exists, and I’m not at all upset by it. This specific beer is once again brought to you by my boss, Anthony. Our little beer trade has been running stronger than ever despite this quarantine. It’s difficult and unnecessary for me to head up to Frederick for beer when Anthony can be in and out in just a few short minutes for a quick pick-up, and I can do the same for what’s near Rockville. Luckily enough we still get to come to work, so I have absolutely nothing to complain about - especially the beer!

*Side note: I assumed this beer was from MD but after a quick Google search I found out that it’s from New York - this is of course after I started drinking it, and I figured I’d double down and just write the review anyways. All good though! Still enjoying local craft beer.

First sip: damn that’s some solid citra! I know I’m gonna love drinking the rest of this if each sip is as tropical and punchy as the first. It looks so much like orange juice, and I can’t get over how dreamy these flavors are (heh, get it?). It’s description (on Instagram) reads: “The onslaught of citrus and tropical fruits balances the subtle bitterness with every silky smooth sip.” Like poetry that I wish I had written myself, but the marketing team beat me to it. Lemme give it a shot. Imagine all the citrus in the world was gently strained through a hop-lined orange peel filled with a myriad of tropical fruits into a glass made from the finest sand in the world, with the glass allowing it the extra bit of smoothness it deserves, and the rind providing the bitterness it requires. Not sure if that’s any better, but hey I’m just happy I get to enjoy this incredible craft. The only thing I would say about it is that I’d enjoy a bit more bitterness. Love the citrus, but I wish there was just a bit more of a kick to it. If you like Hazy NEIPAs, give it a shot! I’m certainly glad to know that if I’m ever in Elmsford, NY that I’ll have a go-to beer.

I hope everyone’s staying safe, healthy, and sane in this crazy time. I’ve found my sanity by playing more video games and FaceTiming like no other - technology is amazing, isn’t it? Ultimately it’s about what works for you! Do what you like with your extra time and try not to put too much pressure on yourself when it comes to being productive. We all need our fun time! I’d say the same even if we weren’t in quarantine. And remember, quarantine rules are like airport rules: doesn’t matter if it’s before noon ;)
